Do Your Part to Help Save Pernambuco!
Why?
Pernambuco, the primary wood used in string instrument bows, is endangered. Pernambuco can only be grown in Brazil, and forests are down to 12% of their original size. Alliance-International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting conservation and preservation projects for pernambuco and other musical woods. Educating the greater musical community of the need for conservation is a world-wide effort.
Musicians recently almost lost the ability to travel internationally with pernambuco bows. Although there was a favorable vote by CITES for traveling musicians, that decision will be revisited in 3 years. This is a critical time to raise money for pernambuco conservation and to preserve our musical traditions for centuries to come.
How?
Musicians have a chance to do what they do best- perform- to benefit pernambuco.
- Dedicate a performance to pernambuco conservation with your choice of repertoire, your chosen venue, and date
- Sign up by emailing vicepresident@alliance-international.org
- The performance can be live in-person or live-streamed
- Alliance-USA will help you promote your recital through our website and social media platforms, alongside your own promotion
- Donations can be made by audience members via QR codes and will not affect ticket sales
- You might consider giving a tax-deductible donation of your own in any amount
- At the performance, we encourage you to share what you know about your bow with the audience
- After your performance, send us pictures we can share to give you recognition on social media.
